That advice is a bit strange to understand looking at the AIS targets on the part of the AR canal from Niewegein to Wijk bij Duurstede . See picture. Is quite quiet and also the shortest route from Roermond via Meuse and furtheron. But better take the route via the Rhine and short part of the Waal and just after Nijmegen the Maas-waal kanaal to the Maas ( Meuse) . Much less traffic and only a short track with no strong current on the nose at the Waal.
At normal levels the Rhine has only very little current.

Not sure if I understood it currently, based on what mentioned above... The trip is from Roermond to Markermeer... so I'll take the Meuse, all the way up to Nijmegen, then take the Wall until the ARK with he possibility (or not) of going via the Vecht.
I will be going with the current until the ARK. From that point on, the current will be against.
Thanks
The reason I mention the route from Nijmegen upstream to the Rhine and via Arnhem to Wijk bij Duurstede is that you will avoid a very busy part of not only the waal but also the ARK as you can see on e.g.Marinetrafic
www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/h...centery:51.8/zoom:10
The Rhine from the connection wit the Waa to Wijk bij Duurstede is much less traffic.
But indeed , its also a bit longer .
The idea to go via the Ijssel is also very interesting and also much faster than the way via the Vecht ,because of the quite strong current on the Ijssel( 2-3 knots in average )and , without any bridge you have to wait if the mast is down.
Took the Ijssel lots of times during summer holyday when I lived in Arnhem with my boat moored nearby.
And also much less traffic than on Waal and ARK until Utrecht.
