• Extremely rare error in the calculation of current-corrected geowind solved.

• A few trim messages added to the UDP-output if selected in systemfiles/sendoverwifi.ini

All messages for trim advice that appear on screen will also be visible in an UDP message on any device with an UDP viewer.

• Fresh log via web pages button now works.
In some webpages used by the webserver there are buttons to change filter values. The button for opening a new log was already available but was not usable. That is now changed. You can start a fresh log by clicking on this button on a web page.


• Improved detection of Jibes and Tacks.
A Jibe or Tack is detected by a change of the bow where the wind comes in. No surprise here. To see if it is a Tack or a Jibe, SPD looks at the average AWA in the seconds before the manoeuvre. A smaller AWA will probably lead to a Tack, a wider AWA to a Jibe. This is not 100% certain, however. If you Tack from a wide AWA (say > 90) SPD will report that as a Jibe. But this is an exceptional manoeuvre.


• New spoken advice for jib sheet out and low or high heel
In your boatspecifics you can select Y for 13 different messages of trim advice. Not all lead to a spoken advice.
Three situations are added to the spoken advice: big and low heel, and the advice to bring the Job Sheet more outside.
In total we now have the following (possible) spoken trim warnings:
Off Course: (to the waypoint
Pinching: too small TWA when beating
Too low: too wide TWA when beating
High Pitch: too much pitching of the bow in waves
Too Deep: too deep when going downwind
Jib Sheet: sheet should be placed more outward
Big Heel: too much heel
Low Heel: not enough heel

Each of these messages can be switched on or off, with a Y or N in boatspecifics.
For the ones with Y, there will be a spoken message when Speak advice = Y in boatspecifics.


• Detection of messages at startup via network (UDP and TCP) improved.
It could happen that during the startup of SPD, with an UDP or TCP connection to receive NMEA, an RMC or Wind message was not found (simply because it was flooded by too many other messages). SPD would then stop.
SPD is now a bit more patient.


• A new web page with 32 logically arranged dials is added to the web_root folder.

Als ze r straks weer in ligt zal ik eea weer eens updaten naar de laatste versie van dit prachtig product!

De dure concurrentie heeft het moeilijk

Kennelijk is er een markt èn valt er geld te verdienen met dit soort software. Bedrijven die andere bedrijven overnemen lijden meestal geen verlies.

• Manoeuvres (Tack and Jibe) now write only 1 line in the PDlog, with the pre- and post Geowind next to it. This used to be 30 identical lines (30 being your definition in boatspecifics:

• Use of Variation from a HDG record with Variation is slightly improved. Heading and Variation are added with 2 decimal places before rounding to a whole number for Heading.
Be sure NOT to add more Variation in boatspecifics when your NMEA input already has Variation. Then use:

Variation = 0

You can recognise a heading record (HDG) with Variation in it as follows:

where the 2.45 is the local Variation, the E is for East.


• A warning added for bigger XTE, both on screen and if activated with speak advice also spoken.
To be defined and activated in boatspecifics:

• After a hiccup in the connection with NMEA (Serial, UDP or TCP) the last waypoint and DTW were still visible in all outputs after the connection was restored and no new waypoint was active in your NMEA mmessages from navigation or GPS. A rare situation, but still a (small) error.
This is now resolved: WP is set to ‘no RMB’ and DTW to 0.0 Nm.
This restoring of the connection is of course only possible if you specify in processlist.ini as follows:

• A button is added to silence all spoken trim advice.
Bottom row, second button from the right.
All selected advice is still displayed on screen, but the speaker is silent. Can be switched on again with same button.
If you specify
[Trimadvice]
speak advice = N
in boatspecifics this SpkAdv button is not shown.


• The webserver pages with buttons (for filters etc) now have two new buttons to control spoken advice and the normal speech (Voice button) that outputs your selected voice data (selected in NMEAtemplates as before).
These buttons do not show the status on or off. Click is on or off, depending on the previous state.
Below the buttons is a Y or N for Advice active, and a time in seconds for the normal Voice message. 0 is off.
See the two buttons 4 and 5 from the right.
You can now control voice output even when running headless.
Only available in Windows. Sorry. Blame Unix.


If you use these web buttons when speech is not enabled (in processlist.ini) and/or speak advice (in boatspecifics) is also set to N then these web buttons will not have any effect.

The 3 rightmost buttons files, nmea and quit have the same functionality as they have on screen. These 3 do not work when a screen is active; they are intended to be used only when running headless.

• SPD could already activate a second (USB) COM/TTY port, for delivering the output-NMEA messages SPD creates. This was only possible when the NMEA stream from instruments came in over a (USB) COM/TTY, so a serial connection.
Now this second COM is also possible when SPD gets its data via an UDP network. In this case SPD will send its NMEA messages over UDP (to devices or a multiplexer) as before, but from now on SPD can also deliver these messages over the second COM/TTY. When the name of that second COM/TTY in boatspecifics is not ‘none’ but an existing port, this function is activated.
It can be useful for users who want to connect a stand alone instrument to display SPD output while SPD gets its NMEA input from an UDP source like a multiplexer.

Er is zeker een hele groep die nogal hersenloos is, althans die ze niet gebruiken.
Die groep is er altijd geweest, en hun leven wordt momenteel nog wat makkelijker gemaakt.
Gewoon de algoritmes volgen de fuik in.

Maar voor een andere groep is leren en zich verbeteren nog steeds belangrijk.
En hoe je dat leren doet is tegenwoordig niet alleen meer boeken lezen en naar wijze oude mensen luisteren, maar het gebruiken van AI hoort daar zeker bij.

Wat betreft de adviezen die SPD geeft, die zijn gebaseerd op algemene kennis over het zo hard mogelijk varen.
SPD kijkt naar de omstandigheden (hoeveelheid wind, golven, koers tov wind etc etc) en naar het resultaat (performance, helling, koersvastheid, roeruitslag etc) en geeft op basis van dat alles adviezen.
Zie het als een ervaren zeiler die je aan boord vertelt wat je beter zou kunnen doen.

Hoe daar AI in te stoppen weet ik nog even niet.

Waarom vraag je het AI zelf niet

Ben even aan het proberen met wat plotten in SPD.
Dat kan op twee tijdstippen:
- na afloop, door het lezen en plotten van een PDlog
- tijdens gebruik van SPD, even de live presentatie onderbreken en terugkijken in de tijd naar wat variabelen
(en kan ook allebei natuurlijk).

De vraag is of iemand behoefte heeft om onder het varen even terug te kijken naar wind, performance, etc (bijvoorbeeld het afgelopen uur of zo).
Er komen dan plaatjes als deze, windrichting en windsnelheid, in dit geval met een 10 seconden moving average.
Wensen?

Ben een heel eind met mooie plots maken uit de PDlog.

Zoals gezegd, dat kan:
- na afloop, door met een post-processor een PDlog te lezen.
- live, tijdens varen met SPD erbij. Dan wordt de op dat moment aktieve PDlog teruggelezen.

Er komen inmiddels al 14 nuttige grafieken uit.

Twee voorbeelden:
Stroming. Een tochtje van Den Oever (Vischjagersgaatje, Malzwin, en dan pal noord naar Oudeschil
In de grafiek de relatieve stroomrichting tov de boot (150 is van schuin rechts achter) en de stroomsnelheid over de grond.
Alle stroom tussen de 2 lijnen 90 en -90 is tegenstroom.
Goed te zien hoe achter de zandbanken de stroom enorm verandert. Zelfs naar 0 kts, even en dan weer dikke tegenstroom tot tegen de 4 kts vlak voor de haven.



Tweede voorbeeld:

Hier de 24uurs van een paar jaar geleden.
De logrecords gesorteerd op oplopende TWA. De rode lijn, oplopend van links aan de wind tot rechts voor de wind.
In paars alle voorkomende performance bij elke TWA. De rechte as, en dat paarse stuk gaat van 70% naar ruim 100% performance.
Een 2e-macht trendlijn erdoorheen.
En dan is goed te zien dat het hoogste punt van die lijn (performance) ligt bij ca 90 TWA.
Ga van het hoogste punt naar beneden tot de rode TWA-lijn.
Als je die raakt, naar links en de TWA aflezen.



En zo is er nog veel meer!
