Wat een prachtig verslag van Jim Gale. Even een klein stukje uit zijn tekst, gewoon omdat ik het zo leuk vind:

"The forecast is for very light westerlies along the Tasmanian coast. The cliffs will cast a big wind shadow, and as the race leaders approach Tasman for the turn into Storm Bay later this afternoon it looks as though there could be a very large parking lot planted just above the island. These are minefields for front runners. You don’t know if you have run out of air until you really have run out of air, and as you wallow in frustration you are a big road sign for the boats behind: Danger, Keep Out."

Hopelijk werkt het live verslag morgenochtend bij m´n ontbijtje. Rond een uur of negen zal Comanche de Derwent
wel opzeilen.... Het Australische Net 7 heeft mondiaal live beloofd.....

Het race village in Hobart is minimal; gelijktijkig is er de Taste of Tasmania, ren jaarlijks evenement dat veel meer ruimte en aandacht krijgt. Wel leuk om de sfeer te proeven. Hoop dat wr de eerste boten binnen zien komen nu ze meer tegenwind hebben en de wind minder wordt.

Quickpoint Azzuro (de oude S&S 34) heeft de leiding in orc3i. Gaaf.

Weer? Vorig jaar maakte die oude S&S het ook spannend op handicap!

Commanche heeft zich gemeld en moet nog een mijltje of 23 / 24. Rambler is in geen velden of wegen te bekennen (ligt inmiddels ruim 40 mijl achter op 69 mijl van de finish).

Zat ik idd ook al aan te denken maar vond de snelheden ook zo enorm wisselen

Rambler wordt hard ingelopen door Ragamuffin. Dat wordt misschien nog spannend.

Klopt het dat je dochter 4e ligt Douwe? Vrijwel gelijk met 2 en 3?

Helaas nee. Ze liggen 56 op linehonours en 6e in Irc 2 divisie.
Traag schip. Ze varen ongeveer op met Kings Legend.
Maar het is heftig genoeg. Al twee dagen tegen een dikke 7 opkruisen.
Verder te melden dat ook Foxi Knoxi(Robin Knox Johnson) bij haar aan boord zit.
Het is voor hun meer de eer om met een oude Clipper 68 boot de nieuwe Clipper 70 boten zoveel mogelijk partij te geven. Dus geen high tech race jacht gebeuren.

Mooi. Kunnen we weer genieten van de boot en mw. Clark (-/- 36 jaar tov dhr. ).

Leuk dat zo'n oude bak als een S&S 34 het zo goed doet. Heb em even opgezocht, zie dat ie aan dek een aardige Facelift gehad heeft. Vaar hier ook geregeld tegen een S&S 34 en heb er ook op mee gevaren. Die dingen kunnen een enorme berg doek verdragen en zijn aan de wind bijna niet te kloppen.

Border Force Tows Back All Sydney To Hobart Yachts.



Reports early this morning have confirmed that the controversial Australian Border Force has launched a massive operation overnight that saw every member of the traditional Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race towed back to Sydney Harbour.

Full details of the extent of the operation and any charges laid are yet to be established but Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton confirmed this morning that a large illegal operation was disrupted and the yachts returned to the place of their berth.

“I can happily confirm that the Australian Border Force fulfilled their duty this morning interrupting a massive people smuggling operation bound for Tasmania,” said Dutton in a prepared statement.

“A series of vessel were intercepted having recently departed from Sydney Harbour carrying multiple passengers attempting to evade capture by travelling through the night. This is an operation that was initiated when an unusually large number of vessels were seen in the harbour on Boxing Day.

“My reports indicate the Border Force first became suspicious when it was clear the yachts were setting a course for Tasmania. We were unable to imagine an earthly reason that anyone would wish to travel to such a place without some kind of nefarious plan.

“Further details will be revealed later with certain operational matters meaning we’re only able to tell you exactly what we want to reveal and will be unable to disclose the full details to avoid any unnecessary transparency and criticism.”

Dutton admitted that, while he was briefed of the operation before its launching, he was surprised to hear of the extent of the mission.

“To be honest I had thought the Australian Border Force had disbanded. I thought that their launch was so incredibly disastrous that there would be no possible way they could survive as an entity, considering how there’s no way the Australian public would ever respect or support them ever again.

“But it turns out that the attention span of the Australian people is just short enough that they had to lay low for a couple of months then could go ahead and do whatever they want to do without any backlash or anything.

“Hell, the name of the Border Force is such mud already that we can just use them to do our dirty work. Even if you heard about a massive screw up you’d just think that was the Border Force being the Border Force. You’d probably forget all about how bizarrely authoritarian it is to have this weird secret security force that polices without oversight.

“Still, good to know the system works. I had put a cheeky tenner on Wild Oats and if they weren’t going to win I didn’t want anyone to win.”

De oude SS34 werd per creditcard gekocht voor $23000,-, het schip was gezonken gekocht. De boot kan nu de Sydney Hobart op handicap winnen. Ik hoop dat het lukt, dat zou fantastisch zijn!
