Onboard various old and new equipment. Two backbones attached to eachother, but no clue to their communication. I would like to invest in a round-up converter with wifi. Mainly because it seems to overcome the different nmea-protocols and it serves the use of a more affordable tablet too use as navigation display.

Comments?

Difficult to say with so little information. In order to be able to use it you need to understand what you have.

That being said I believe the Yacht Devices YNDR02 is always a good choice. It can handle several protocols and will send out all info via WiFi to your tablet.

I use a MiniPlex-3Wi-N2K, it has NMEA0183, Seatalk, NMEA2000, all visa versa and to WiFi.

Same here. Does exactly what you want (if I read your post correctly).

Lots of configuration options, so be prepared to read the excellent manual.

Currently I’m working with a quark-elec a032. Pretty happy with it so far.

Note that in the Quark A032 there is no user selected filtering, GPS failover setup, etc. Setting the NMEA0183 baud rate and wifi settings is about all you can change. So you're stuck with the standard setup in their firmware, but that may be all you need.

If it's working for you out of the box, you don't create any conflicts on your specific boat network and you have no future plans to tune the NMEA setup it's a cheap box.

Ah, you're right. I altered my original post, that was about the A032.

Shipmodul Miniplex.

With a bit of configuration it can connect straight to your MiFi router to provide both access to Internet and all available sensor information on the same network rather than going peer-to-peer. Meaning you won't have to switch to, for instance, update maps.

I install these on a regular basis for both iOS and Android based systems and have close ties with its developer/manufacturer.

Also looking into this subject, as I have a similar situation on our new boat. I'm currently considering the NMEA4Wifi by vela-navega. Also looked at the various Quark devices, but I consider it a disadvantage that it will only accept 4 wifi clients max.
