Onderwerp: Ervaring met Blue Shark furlers

All right, after extensive attempts trying to make use of this top down furler, i can provide my personal review:

The furler is not a good design for few reasons.
The drum diameter is too small for the sq ft they recommend. There's simply not enough leverage to furl a spinn that's flapping in the wind.
The bearings inside are not good at all when the torsion rope is hoisted. I don't mean they are not smooth, i mean they feel seized! They do spin freely with no load.
There are two big design flaws. The tackle that connects to the bowsprit must NOT swivel. In my case i fixed it by tack welding the snap shackle swivel. Otherwise I could have just put a fixed shackle there. Either way, the swivel should not be there at all.
Secondly, the spinning ring which makes it "topdown" has only one sided attachment. The forces of the Spinnaker make it loaded unevenly and the bearing jams up.

All said, i do not recommend it. Unfortunately my money is gone and I wish i spent it on a different furler. Now I'm back to using the sock. That was an expensive lesson for me.
