Sailed Ericson 30, Catalina 36, Catalina 42.
I think the course partly taught me that I still have a fair amount to learn.
- I found it harder to tell where the wind was coming from, without a wind indicator, on a bigger boat. Maybe because we were going faster, or just because we were sailing in really swirly areas near the Golden Gate.
- Sail trim seemed to be harder to do right, partly because trimming a sheet took so much effort that you tend not to experiment enough.
- Seeing around the jib seemed to be harder. Maybe because we were in a higher-traffic area than we normally are.
- Docking in a strong wind was a real adventure. I didn't expect the bow to blow around so quickly on a 42-foot boat.
