Onderwerp: Renault RC8D alternator issue. Buy a new one?

I have noticed that my alternator is not charging anymore. I get 5.9 Volts from it.
I was thinking to buy a new one but I am not sure what I should look for. The alternator I have does not any name or serial number. Any advise? Anyone has same engine and can tell me which alternator is using?

Brand and type number are always somewhere on the alternator.

Did you check the ignition wire and incandescent bulb in your dashboard. Without this wire or bulb, the alternator will not start charging.

Can it be, that only the voltage regulator of the altenator is broken? Thus that only that part of it needs replacemrnt?

The ignition terminal is marked with "D+". When running the engine, you can measure between minus and D+, the value must be almost equal as the battery voltage.

When the engine has stopped, the voltage on D+ is very low, maybe 0,5-1 volt.

Depending on the age, the carbon brushes could be worn out. New brushes and/or new voltage regulator could solve the problem.
Very often the brushes are an intergrated part in the voltage regulator.

With my RC8D, the alternator is a Paris Rhone, E1j; M10, 12V, 28A. (This is the original one)
It has an external voltage regulator and the altenator can be switched off on the engine dashboard. It does not have terminals marked with D+

Make sure to find out what you have got at the moment, and try to find the same set-up, or make sure that you adjust the wiring to the new situation.

Same regulator is used in the 2cv "lelijke eend". Google knows where to get it.
