Hi there,
Sorry first that I didn’t speak Dutch, so I hope you can tolerate my English ;-)
I own since half a year now an nice 1980 Dufour 2800, what is located currently in Almere Harbor. As the winter is coming more fast then I wish, I think about buying an 3,5Ton trailer, to get the boat home for working on it.
But a few people told me, not to trust the shipbuilder specs, what say in all old documents, that the weight is at around 2,8Ton.
Unfortunately in Almere they have no scale on their crane, also in Naarden they haven’t, I didn’t see a fast solution to become the true weight of my boat.

Therefore I hope now, that here are a few colleagues who own or had owned an 2800 and know their weight from.
If it will be (after taking out all stuff what is portable) below or at least 2,7Ton, I would trailer it home.

To rent a trailer over half a year is the same price, as I buy one, so I need to know if that works, at best before I buy one… ;-)

Btw. How are the regulations in the Netherlands about the width of a boat on a trailer?
In Germany the normal maximum is 2,55m but I have just three exits from the border to my home ;-)

Can someone help me with this question?

Many thanks in advance,
Jochen (who lives directly behind the border to the Netherlands, close to Venlo) ;-)
Best regards,
Jochen

Wow that was fast!

Many thanks for your comments, that makes me smile as it sounds perfect!

Btw. I made a mistake in my first post, the possible maximum would be 2,9 Ton for the boat, as the most trailers are at around 600kg.
So between 2,7 and 2,8 is great!

What is the allowed width on Netherlands streets/highways, or do I need some extra permission for 2,9m?
Best regards,
Jochen

2.50 mtr with a 10% margin all in.
Towed my catamaran 2.55mtr wide behind a Mercedes E350 stationwagon
all over Europe. Got checked on ,no problems. Not even with the French :P .
Edit: 2.9 mtrs is probally to wide.

Your main concern is weight, have a towinghook that is approved for 3,5 tons.

That fits for me, have an allowed towing limit from 3500kg.
I thought, that in the Netherlands is a wider limit than her in our bureaucracy country….

Jochen

My 24ft Boat is 1200kg on the ORC certificate (which is empty no sails etc).
However the scale on the crane was 1450kg with empty watertank, 15l of diesel, main, jib, and just essentials on board however “everything else” taken out. Everything mounted extra was not in the special.
Boat weight grows!

There are many places where you can measure the weight on the axis when loaded. When you add the load on the towbar (50-100kg) then you know the towbar. Quite often they allow you to drive by and check.

Maximum width of a trailer in EU is 2,50m with some exceptions:
In the Netherlands the “cargo” maybe max 3m if this is impossible to take apart, which you cannot with a boat. (e.g. A catamaran needs to be carried slanted or taken apart).
It will bring you up to the border, but not across.
But, beware, 3m is really wide. Check at the beforehand where you want to go. Do not get stuck in a city centre.

You need a licensed trailer. Trailer driver’s license. And obviously, a serieus tow-car.
Check, wheels, tires and bearings especially when a (old) trailer has been outside for a long time.
They wear on time standing outside; not on time used.
