Hello everybody,
my name is Marco and I live in Germany, close to the 3border area.
Sorry if I write in English
My wife and I have recently bought of a beautiful sailboat, a very old but well maintained C&C27 Kroeneburg from 1976. She is our life dream becoming real.
But... I have almost zero experience about sailing in The Netherlands, and a very limited experience in sailing in general.
The boat is located near Workum, Netherlands and I need to sail her as soon as possible to Roermond (Netherlands).
I've asked for a quote for the transfer of the boat by a skipper, and while at first he estimated 3 days for the transfer, now he told me yesterday that it would take at least 6 days.
The price for a 6 days transfer would be more than 1000 euros so i'm also considering the transfer of the boat by truck (i'm waiting for a quote).
My question is... I've studied the dutch maps and i've made with the help of navionics ipad app the route from workum to Roermond... is it so difficoult as a first experience ?
I think it would be also a beautiful experience and a good beginning for me :woohoo:
The mast has been dismounted and put over the boat in travel mode. I've heard that some locks are closed in this period of the year (opening available on call) and others have very limited working hours. But I don't have a clear picture and the majority of the websites I've found are in dutch, so not very helpful for me.
Attacched you will find the route made with Navionics...

Thank you very much in advance for your answers and help!

Marco & Elisabeth

The best option seems to me indoors, through the IJssel = 100 km against stream 2-4 kph After the Waal stream behind to Nijmegen (15 km) (3 days), Maaswaal channel than through the Meuse at Roermond (2 days)
Locs no problem, when the motor 3 liters per hour used about 180 liters.Plus one day from Workum to IJssel = 6 days. (Locs/bridges Workum 24 hours in advance call)

Welcome here! Congratulations with your new yacht.
Transferring your boat with help of an experienced guy is possible. Perhaps you can find one here.
Good luck.

Welcome Marco,
Quickest route would be around 300km whereof 120 against current. With an average of 8km/h and 12 hours a day it would be 4 days. If you dont have sufficient nav lights is will be longer as you can only travel at daylight (abt 8hrs a day, atleast 5 days.)
As a starting experience I would concider it a bit over the top. First the IJselmeer where you would need reasonable weather, later you will meet a lot of barges and last but not least manouvring in the locks with the mast down is not as easy as it looks.

Hi Marco,

Several options but my choice would be:

Workum - Enkhuizen - Muiden - Utrecht - Gorinchem - Den Bosch - Helmond - Roermond.
Compared to Kaaiman's idea:
Pro's: almost no current, shorter 140 nm
Con's: passage Workum - Muiden should have fair weather, more locks and bridges.

Estimated time about 40 hours: 4-5 days for 1 person, 3-4 days for 2.

Got some time to help you out.

Kind regards, Arjaan

Hi Marco, congratulations with your new and very nice boat!

If you can agree on the costs Arjaan - who just replied to you in the above post - would be a very good option. He's an experienced skipper and sailing instructor, so if you join him as crew member on this trip I'm sure you will learn a lot! Not primarily about sailing as the mast is down, but about boat handling, security, maintenance and other important matters.

I'm also pretty sure he'll entertain you with some interesting stories during the trip.

Thank you everybody for sharing your thoughts with about this transfer!
I agree with you guys, it's definetly better and safer to ask for someone experienced to help and it's an occasion to learn something!
About the locks system, is there a website where I can have a look and see timings, working hours, etc ?
Arjaan, I'll send you a message privately!

Thanks again!
Marco
