Bizar om het OBR report van Vestas van die dag zelf te lezen.

This tropical storm is only toying with us. It slows, it moves east, west, south, it’s now strengthening but it shouldn’t build too much. The holiday makers and honeymooners on Mauritius are probably none too pleased with what’s about to come there way, this beautiful postcard island is about to get hit.
I’ve never seen it, never been there but fingers crossed in the morning I might see my first sight of Mauritius. I only know it like most of you, for its white sand beaches and cocktails, brochures of couples having the best of honeymoons! Well not Sunday folks. The brochures lied about Sunday. I wonder as I pass many islands will I ever get back to see them. I promised myself I’d visit the Cape Verde Islands last year when I passed close by during the Clipper Race and yet I found myself passing them again on the VOR exactly 12months later. I wonder if I got married would I go to Mauritius? That’s a conversation for a completely different time though, marriage! Ha, right moving on so…
With all the squally activity that happened today we were blessed to have sustained a significant rain shower. It’s fresh water! An abundance of it. The only thing to do was get the soap out and wash. We might and probably will have another chance at a wash but you take each one like its your last. It’s also important to note this does not happen on every leg of the race.
The afternoon was just insane, we went from upwind sailing at 40 degrees apparent with wind from the 070 to 090 to no wind. Shortly it would rotate to 180 coming from due south! In circles we went but the squalls made for some interesting times. I wont lie, I took a privilege and had my shower before any camera came out. Sometimes you need to do these things! Then the sun dropped low in the sky and threw up some stunning backdrops.
Our American friends were close by so I snapped some nicely lit shots, I was also wondering was Amory shooting back at me thinking the same thing. (Amory (OBR for Alvimedica) was and still is my hero when it comes to this job, well any job he touches really. His images inspired me to do this race and I watched his every photo and video in the previous edition in awe of his talent. Now I’m out here doing it with him two years on. They say you should never meet your idols but I can confirm its nonsense. We’ve grown to be good friends actually. (sorry I diverted a little).
The nights close in very quickly as you approach the equator and darkness decended today rapidly. I wonder what’s in store for us tonight. We all know theres a giant cyclone thing called Suzie waiting to the north east for us but right now I type at 4 knts with as much wind strength. wonder what the darkness will bring out fighting tonight.
Not long after I left this blog to grab some sleep did we start picking up the pace. By 3am boat time we were fully in some good downwind wind. 20+ knts. As dawn broke we find ourselves surfing in the mid 20’s in stark contrast to yesterday.
As we had broken free of the light patch last night Alvimedica did not so we have made gains in the region of 40 miles. This had an effect on us also. It meant the leaders got into pressure and made similar advances on us north. I think you’ll find this game of cat and mouse continue as we sail further north.
For now we get a fast ride north from Suzie, 24hrs and we could be back reporting from a glassy ocean floor.
Later land people,

Jammer dat het als klus niet kan voor de Pieter Schelte ? Wat een PR stunt zou dat zijn. Komt er binnen een paar dagen bijna langs.
